Samothraki
dance festival 2003
It's time to hurry up! Samothraki Dance Festival 2003, in other
words, the favourite event of thousands of electro music fans all over the
world, has announced not only a date -28/8 - 3/9- but a presale ticket price
as well. All those who either want to be on time for this summer's electro-rendezvous
or badly need a cheep ticket (70 euros only) for the 7-day dance fiesta
should make their plans as fast as possible. Time is running!
Question: Why one should buy a ticket now, instead of
waiting till the 28th of August when the Samothraki Dance Festival 2003
opens?
Answer: The ticket costs less, due to the low presale admission. For example,
the ticket's price (seven days accomodation in camping facilities included)
is 70 euros from March to May, 100 euros from May to July and 135 euros
from July to the opening. If you find this a tenable argument, just click
http://www.samothrakidancefestival.com/ and send an email to info@samothrakidancefestival.com
in order to book your ticket.
For those (the few) that need more info

whereas last year's event summoned up to 10.000 music fans from Indonesia,
Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Canada
and Europe.
The festival provides to music and other forms of art the opportunity
to promote and develop a modern artistic way of expression and communication
through the use of new technology plus know how, aiming for the exchange
of cultural knowledge experience and of course entertainment.

Global
Novel: 14 authors, 12 countries, 11 languages
A pioneering and at the same time ambitious project begins
in Athens, as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2001-2004 program.
The project's title is "Global Novel" and it is based on
an idea of the Greek author Yiorgos Skourtis. Fourteen authors from 11 countries
will write the novel, which will be completed by Christmas 2003,. The Minister
of Culture of Greece, Mr Evangelos Venizelos proceeds to the official announcement
of the project on Tuesday, April 15.
The official opening of the event in April 15, takes place at the amfi-theatre
of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture at 11:00, when Minister Venizelos,
accompanied by most of the writers gives the signal for the beginning
of the "experiment."
Eleven foreign and three Greek novelists undertake the task to write
the global novel. The authors, one by one, will be continuing the novel
from the point it was left by the previous one. Each sequel will be translated
into all 11 languages spoken by the writers. The project will be finally
completed in three parts.
Completed parts of the novel will be published daily in Athens' Ta
Nea newspaper, while at the same time there will be a relevant website
to inform readers about the evolution of the project. When the novel is
completed by year's end, it will be published by Kastaniotis Editions.
The authors, who meet for the first time (April 13 to 18) in order to
discuss the timetable and the general theme of the novel's story, are:
Niccolo Ammaniti (Italy), Arthur Japin (The Netherlands), Gamal Ghitani(Egypt),
Pavel Kohout (Czech Republic), Aris Fioretos (Sweden), Ingo Schulze (Germany),
Abraham Yehoshua (Israel), Antonio Skarmeta (Chile), Feride Cicekoglu
(Turkey), Michel Faber (England) and Yasmina Khadra (Algeria). From Greece,
Alexandros Asonitis, Lena Divani and Yiorgos Skourtis complete the team.
Manuel
Panselinos from Mt. Athos' Holy Church of Protaton
For the first time ever, the brilliant works of the master
icon painter from Thessaloniki, Manuel Panselinos, from the
Holy Church of Protaton in St. Athos' Karyes, are put in the
spotlights in a unique exhibition, at the Port of Thessaloniki. It is an
exhibition organized by the "Mt. Athos Home," in the context of
the events of "Cultural Olympiad 2001-2004."
The exhibition that lasts up until June 30, aims to present the work and
personality of Panselinos, the greatest of all icon painters of the Palaeologan
period (1261 - 1453).
Emmanuel Panselinos, an almost legendary figure that stands somewhere between
myth and reality, is referred to for the first time by the monk and icon
artist Dionysius from Fourna of Euritania (beginning of 18th cent.), in
his book "Explaining the art of painting."
Because of the high quality of his art, Panselinos became
enormously famous at his time and today he is considered as the artist who
better expresses the Macedonian renaissance school.
The main characteristics of Panselinos' frescoes on the walls of the
Protaton, the ancient administrative center of the monastic community
of Mount Athos, are the autonomy and the autarky of his figures into the
synthesis, the suavity of his colors and the resurgence of themes from
the art of the late Hellenistic period.
The exhibition focuses mainly on his frescoes in Protaton, that consist
the utmost of artistic expressions of Byzantine Hellenism and one of the
most significant examples of the world's cultural heritage. Around the exhibition's
main part, a second one develops in order to highlight on the artist's work
and workshop, attributed to him according to the findings of recent scientific
research.
