Tour overview

We will pick you-up from your address of stay and take you in safety and comfort heading to Marathon at the Mesogeion avenue, through the Pallini, Pikermi, in North-Easter coastal suburbs of Athens, in only 45 minutes from the city-center. Marathon is the venue of the most significant battle of the history, and decisive for the western civilization. You will see the Tomb of Marathon, locals call it the Pile, is a 12 meters burial monument in honor of the 192 Athenian soldiers who fell at the Battle of Marathon. The itinerary also includes guided tour of Marathon's major battlefield sites and a delicious seaside lunch at one of best by the sea-view taverns, where you will enjoy traditional local lunch whilst admiring the view of the blue waters of the Aegean Sea.

According to Greek Mythology, Dionysus, was the god of wine and mirth, entrusted the residents of Attica all with the secrets of cultivating wine, the art of wine making and of-course... drinking it! The area of Mesogeia is one of the oldest and largest wine-producing region of all of Greece. With more than 30 established brands winemakers, the area has been distributing wine throughout Greece and abroad for ages - literally. The micro-climate, is ideal for the Savvatiano grapes, and are the predominant; these golden color wines with a light taste, delicate aroma and low acidity. Savvatiano grape is mainly used for the production of the very known Retsina wine. A lot red wines are also produced in Mesogeia and distributed all over Europe.

What to expect

The driver-guide will pick you-up from your place of stay and take you to Marathon in safety and comfort in a air-conditioned vehicle. Be prepared about the main interests in prior Marathon battle, the wines of Mesogeia and the area. You will be impressed. Your driver guide will be a local specialist in the history, ancient battlefields, strategy and warfare. The significance of the Marathon battle, on 17 September 490 BC, is great (look at videos and read about). There will be also, wine tasting and photo shooting stops. Expect a great memorable day, in the historical Marathon fields and wineries of Attica.
