Explore ancient cities, prehistoric citadels and glamorous temples in the wonderful nature of the Peloponnese.

We drive through Elefsis and Megara and we arrive at the Corinth Canal for a short stop, to take pictures of the great Canal which connects the Aegean and Ionian seas (85 meters high and 6,5 Kms long).

 

Tour overview

Departing from Athens, you will see on the way the historic cities of Elefsina and Megara. We will make a picture-stop at the amazing Corinth canal, after that at ancient Corinth, visiting the Apollo Temple and the major attractions. Our next stop is at Mycenae, in the prehistoric citadel-city, build on top of a hill, between the mountains. The views are spectacular over the vineyards and orange fruit-farms. The visit of the Royal Tombs, and the Treasure of Atreas, is a thrilling experience. We will stop in the village of Fihti, to admire Mycenean art and the very impressive Mycenean center, work-shop for pottery and art.

After the memorabilia shopping and a local lunch, we take the road back to Athens. If you wish to extend the tour in the 10 hours long-day version, you can visit the picturesque coastal city of Nafplio and the ancient site of Epidaurus, the greatest medical center of the ancient world, know for the amazing theater that is build in the fourth century BC, designed by the architect Polykleitos.

What to expect

Pick-up in time from your hotel of stay at 08:30. Your driver-guide will inform you for the details and you may decide on the day about the suggested destinations, schedule and specify your interests. In the late Bronze Εra the Mycenae was a very important city-state in Greece, In this day trip from Athens you will have the opportunity to explore this miraculous culture of the ancient world. In the ancient Greek literature, the rhapsodic-poet Homer have described the Mycenae as Golden Mycenae. You will visit the archaeological site, entering through the Lions Gate, see the royal palace and admire the splendid view. The Tomb of Atreas is another attraction, near the Acropolis of Mycenae and certainly worth the visit.

After enjoying a good lunch we will continue on to Nafplio and Epidaurus. The ancient site of Epidaurus, is a World Heritage UNESCO listed monument and was believed by ancient people to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asklepios. The theater at Epidaurus is the best preserved ancient theater, and admired for the amazing acoustics. You will hear insightful commentary about the attractions in prior of entering the archaeological sites, so you will have time to explore all of the sites independently, at your own pace, Of course you will have the opportunity to taste some of the famous local wines!
